North Carolina

We didn’t want to spend the weekend in the car park at National Indoor near Atlanta, so we decided to drive the coach up to a lake area.  We tried getting into many parks up here but they were all full.  Apparently this area gets pretty booked up when the autumn colours start to change, it’s quite a spectacle.  One of the few places we could get into was Mountain Falls, it’s a luxury RV resort and it cost more per night than most other places we have stayed at, but well, it is our last sojourn before heading back to NZ.

This resort is in western North Carolina, about 2.5 hours north of the storage facility.  Once we started climbing into the mountains the road got pretty narrow and winding, but S is a seasoned driver now and isn’t fazed by any driving situation.

Once here we couldn’t believe how lovely the resort and surrounding area is.  It reminds us of Wanaka/Arrowtown/Queenstown.  The autumn colours have just begun to show and I can tell in a week or so from now it’s going to be spectacular here, a shame we will miss the best of it.

We booked in for 2 nights and extended to 3.  The coach parking areas are very nicely done here with outdoor kitchens and fireplaces in most.  All are privately owned in a condominium type arrangement, and the whole resort is designed around a 9 hole golf course.  At the top of the resort the coach parks have cottages which are very stylishly designed.  The clubhouse is also up at the top which is built in a hunting lodge style.  There is a large swimming pool, spa, tennis courts gym etc.

Everyone gets around here in little electric golf carts, and some are very stylish.  The Corvette is not a little electric cart!

The weather turned very chilly after hurricane Michael went through.  The days are brisk, evenings chilly and nights are cold.  It’s time for us to head home!
